The home textile producer has created a mattress cover with heating and cooling that can be controlled remotely through an app and have zones with different temperatures. The development, which has already been tested and validated, is in the process of being patented.
As a result of the research carried out in the context of the Texboost mobilizer project, the mattress cover was developed in partnership with Filasa, CITEVE and CeNTI and aimed to create «an innovative integrated heating and cooling system with a high level of safety and thermal comfort ”, explained José Silva, CeNTI researcher, during the presentation of the results.
To reach the final prototype, the research focused on the development of a textile structure capable of incorporating a water circulation system without affecting the users' comfort. «It was very important for everyone to have a final structure that was as close as possible to the structures already used today», indicated the researcher, so that «in the future, when the mattress cover is already in industrial production, it will not be a very slow process in the integration of the tubing '. In addition, he said, it was also essential "that, when lying down, the person not only feels comfort but also does not apply pressure on the tubes, blocking the passage of the fluid inside".
This mattress cover can be used in a double bed and has the added value of being able to have two zones with different temperatures, to cool or heat according to what is desired, which also distinguishes it from most of the solutions available on the market. «Most of the existing systems still focus a lot on the use of so-called electric blankets, more on a heating aspect. We found some commercial examples with the heating and cooling functions, but still very directed to the use, for example, of hot or cold drafts, inserted under the blanket, which causes some discomfort, because we feel the air. What we tried to do here was a solution that was as comfortable as possible, ”said José Silva.
The differences are also present in terms of control, which can be done through an external device or through an app, which was developed for now only for Android system, which allows «to control the current temperature of the mattress, monitor and program the temperature that we want for each zone and we also have the function, for example, of choosing a specific time when the mattress activates automatically with a pre-programmed temperature ”, explained the researcher.
The project was validated with thermal tests and tests were also recently carried out at the IEP - Inspections and Certifications of Electrical Installations "for a future certification", said José Silva, who also revealed that "we will proceed with a patent to protect all the developments made".
